Update your GoPro camera manually
To benefit the latest features that your GoPro camera offers, you need to make sure you have the latest software version offered by the manufacturer installed. The latest software version can be downloaded from the official GoPro website and it contains the version number (v1.70), the date it was released, the new features introduced but also general bug fixes (if reported) and user interface improvements.
First, we need to choose the model of GoPro camera to which we want update the firmware (Hero9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, Black, White, Max, Fusion etc). In this article we will see how to do this manually, for the GoPro Hero8 Black.
After choosing the camera model, you must enter on the GoPro website the 14-Digit Serial Number (example: C3331324647805). You find the number printed in the battery compartment, on its original packaging and in the camera's menu (Preferences>About>Camera Info). For this you have to turn off the camera and remove the battery from its place. Insert your email address, to receive notifications when important software updates for the camera are available.
Click "Download Update" tab to download the update folder to your computer and unzip it. Insert your camera's microSD Card into your computer using a microSD card adapter or USB reader and transfer on it the update folder. Be sure to copy the update folder not the update.zip file. Safely remove the microSD card from your computer, insert into your GoPro Camera and power it ON. The camera will detect the new software and will start the update automatically.
