8K Ultra HD resolution refers to an image with a width of about 8000 pixels. 8K UHD (7680 × 4320) is the highest resolution defined in the 2020 standard (UHDTV). The 8K display resolution comes after the 4K resolution when TV makers wanted to make 4K a new standard by 2017. In 2013, the ability of a broadcast network to carry HDTV resolution was limited by internet speeds and relied on satellite transmission to transmit high data rates. Because of this, video compression measures will be needed, which will be a challenge for physical communication networks in the future.

In 2018, only a few cameras owned the property to shoot videos in 8K, NHK being among the only companies that managed to make a small broadcast camera with 8K image sensor. Resolutions such as 8K allow producers to shoot at high resolution, with a wide lens or at a long distance, such as in wildlife documentaries, by being able to zoom without distorting or blurring the image.

If 4K Ultra HD is four times higher than Full HD resolution, then 8K Ultra HD is four times higher than 4K Ultra HD resolution and 16 times Full HD resolution.

8K resolution requires up to 120 fps, and 4K only half the number of frames per second. The number of pixels and frames per second specified by 8K resolution means that it requires a significantly higher amount of bandwidth to be delivered compared to 4K (100 Mbps vs. 25 Mbps).
Most QLED and OLED TVs have 4K resolution and both can reach 8K resolution. No technology has a major inherent advantage in the areas of color processing or video. While OLED is able to make screens much darker for better contrast, QLED screens are much brighter. This makes it ideal for brighter cameras and HDR content. They also come in different sizes, large to small, and it is also very affordable compared to OLEDs.
